Every good website needs unique title tags and meta tags or, more simply, descriptions with keywords. They not only help potential customers discover your website, but more about your services and products too.

Now, if you have a tiny corporate website, you can easily write them manually. However, for an online store with thousands of products, all meta tag creation should definitely be automated.

To get quick low-frequency traffic for product cards, you need to create and implement a professional scheme for automatically generating meta tags to help you achieve this goal.

But why auto-generate meta tags?

1. Positive Impact on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Promotion

Unique meta tags that include low-frequency keywords increase the relevance of the page to low-frequency queries (“product name,” “product name + buy,” etc.). As a result, your website is better ranked by low-frequency traffic, and if you have a considerable number of pages, this will certainly give you excellent traffic growth dynamics.

2. Improving the Clickability of Snippets on the SERPs

A snippet like “Buy a red spade for $30 in the online store UniqueStoreName” looks much better than the automatically generated snippet “Red spade, item number 273712.”

Better ranking on the search engine results pages (SERPs) means more impressions. And better ‘clickability’ means more transactions.

Therefore, by using auto-generation we:

• Save the site from duplicates – the search engine perceives any combination of filters on the page as a unique page with its own meta tags and URL.
• Increase the position and visibility of the site in general.
• Attract low-frequency traffic.

On each project, we prescribe algorithms for generating metadata individually.  Although there isn’t a universal template, the principles of its creation are the same – implement, use, remember us with a good word.

Moreover, developing a basic auto-generation scheme takes no more than an hour.

How To Develop a Scheme for Auto-Generating Meta Tags

When developing an auto-generation scheme, your task is to use the product data already added in the admin panel, and synonyms for transactional words.

Let’s take a product card for the spade as an example.

The spade has the following characteristics.

  • Color: red
  • Material: iron
  • Handle material: wood
  • Size: 5х10
  • Brand: UniqueStoreName
  • Model: WTR
  • Article: 273712

You need to highlight the characteristics from this list that are important to users (that is, those that are in demand). To determine demand, we usually use tools like Ahrefs, Google Keyword Planner and Soovle. In our case, colored spades are in demand, and customers are also interested in the spade’s manufacturing material and brand.

You should also add the model’s name to make the product card as unique as possible (one brand can have several red metal spades).

A formula for generating meta tags should be formed based on these characteristics.

A simple example of a scheme

Legend

A = trigger word (“buy”, “order”, “choose”, “purchase”)

B = brand

C = model

D = color (singular, feminine, accusative)

E = material of manufacture

F = product name (in the genitive case)

G = benefit (Great offer, The best price, Fast delivery, Excellent service, etc.)

H — offer (We offer you to, We advise you to, We recommend you to, etc.)

Formula examples for a scheme

Title = A + D + F + B + C

The programmer should randomly pick a query from block A.

Final Title: Buy red UniqueStoreName spade WTR

Description = H + A + D + F + B + C, material: E. G in UniqueStoreName online store!

Final Description: We offer you to buy a red UniqueStoreName spade WTR, material: iron. The best price in the UniqueStoreName online store!

Adding more synonyms and random values can make the auto-generation scheme more complex if desired.

One more thing to remember, it’s not always possible to create a unique meta tag generation scheme for all website categories. In this case, you should develop and implement separate schemes for each major product category using the unique features of their product characteristics.

What To Pay Attention to When Creating an Auto-Generation Scheme

1. Use the Content of Selects or Checkboxes

If the content manager is free to enter the value of the “Color” field, for example, you might be really puzzled by the result of their work. But if you can only select one of the given options in the admin panel field, then its content is already standardized and perfect for auto-generation.

2. Check the Results

To check your auto-generation scheme, you should randomly click on products from various categories and see how they look. If this is your first scheme, the resulting designs may surprise you.

3. Do Manual Optimization (If You Can)

Ask the programmer to allow exceptions in the auto-generation scheme. It usually works like this: you should use the scheme data if you do not add the data manually. That is, if you wish to optimize any card of a particularly popular product separately, you can always do this without additional help from a technical specialist. If metas are written manually, they will be displayed. If not written, you should take them automatically.

4. Auto-generation Should Be One-Time

Meta tags should not be “generated” on the fly. When your programmer launches the scheme, the script goes through all the product cards once and assigns certain titles and meta tags to them. After that, this information no longer changes. Then, the script should work only for new products as they are added.

Otherwise, you risk getting product cards with constantly changing content (since some requests for the formula are taken randomly).

Note that a good auto-generation scheme is effective in ranking for low-frequency queries. You can use it for large online stores, as well as for large content projects (for example, news portals and forums) to get maximum traffic on your topic!

Finally, a few words about the keywords. We heard a lot of debate about whether it affects the SEO-promotion. Many people believe that it doesn’t matter anymore and, from 2009, Google officially supports this version. So, rather than waste time preparing and adding keywords to the site, you can use your time to do something more productive.

If you have your auto-generation schemes, share them in the comments.
